Hunters Moon
I walk through the darkened lane tonight,
A cold wind blows from the sea,
Across the river and over the lea.
And the Hunter’s Moon I see.
I hear a dog fox bark to the night,
Hear a vixen afar reply,
Hear the scream of a creature as life is snuffed,
And the Hunter’s Moon climbs high.
Higher she climbs, ever higher
With light like a soft summers eve;
Dimming the stars as she rises
Making my heart to grieve.
Bright in the heavens she glitters
Bright as my little ones eyes,
The eyes that no longer will glitter
Now dead to both earth and to skies.
The grey lady swoops silently by me,
The wind chills my lonely soul.
The sounds of the night are around me.
While the Hunter looks down through a bole.
In the distance the sea, soft, caresses the sand,
The sounds of the night are around,
As the Hunter’s Moon stares down on me
But makes never, no never, a sound.

dear Alex,
your descriptions of the Hunter's Moon are exquisite! I, myself have an affinity with the Blood Moon. your poem is loving for the sweet one you have lost, the wee bairn... you have laced sorrow with enchantment and beauty. thanks for sharing this with us.

Hello Kat
Thank you Kat, I think poets should try and use words as painters use their paints. I can't paint so I write as best I can. Alex

This is so beautiful and sad. You’ve got me crying. Emotional response triggered. Excellent writing.

A beautifully haunting
and eerie poem. The development of various thoughts and strains of imagery is truly enchanting. I especially love the concept of the 'grey lady' - a vivid personification.

Thank You
Thank you A. (Forgive my laziness in just using your initial). Grey Lady was a common term in this part of the world.I also noticed a typo I could correct. Alex

Hello Alex.
Hello Alex.
Sad, yet so well said.
I felt as though I was with you on that eve, both to watch the skies and to share your pain. Thanks for taking us along on this journey of the heart. - Will
