For Him

And he writes,
Oh, How he writes.
His words speak to me
like an old friend.
Warm. Personal.
Poetry.

How blessed I am
holding this soft cover
glimpse into
his wonderfully sad,
beautifully joyful life.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

He writes of the curves of a woman,
fields of flowers and fire,
how the sun peaks through his window
over my favorite flower.

He writes about
running to and from,
sometimes just running.
Just running is my favorite.
It is calm, peaceful,
free.

I think, in another life,
we would’ve been
the best of friends.
But for now,
I read
this book
automatically opening to my favorite
pages with worn corners.
Thumbing through the
memories of his life as if
they are my own.

If he were to read this,
I would say,
“Thank you”:
for speaking life into me,
for making me fall in love with poetry again
for encouraging me to write again.
That love lost
and burned so long ago.

If he were to read this,
I would say thank you
for being yourself
because you made a difference in my life.

To either a favorite writer or friend/partner who loved to write. He sounds like quite the creative inspiration and I'm sure he would be thrilled with how you captured him within your poem. Excellent work

This line is resounding with me over and over. I like this person whomever they may be. For all the things you said and more but mostly for inspiring you to write. You’re immensely talented and it would be lovely to read more of your work. This one is stellar, lofty in scheme, and a beautiful sentiment. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you very much!

I stopped writing poetry a very long time ago, but thanks to him, I fell in love with poetry again and I haven't stopped writing since. I intend to keep writing, maybe even publish a book someday with this poem on the first page, thanking my breath of fresh air. His work brought me back to me.

I think you should absolutely publish a book if you think you want to. You’ve got a handful of editors here that are extremely helpful. I’m on everyday (almost) and I’m available for comment or critique daily (again almost). I’ve really enjoyed what you’ve posted.

Thank you very much! I am always down for comments and critques!

I had him and lost him! I didn't know how important he was to my learning, growing, my life! I lost him slowly, ever so gradually...then he was gone from me... he was my teacher, mentor, friend and lover. he crafted me into the poet I am today...

Respects, Cat
