Her Guitar Cries...

"This is a Man's World",turns her on
she wonders at the chills
Despairing of finding love
she plays guitar to pay the bills

Cool voice heating up the room
and she steady stares
Closes her eyes and dreams of him
letting go her cares

Shaggy hair and darkest eyes
smoothest olive-skin
shake those slow hips, baby
twist her soul again

Deepest hole that she can find
only crawling out to play
Dreaming, playing, waiting
Getting by, just one more day

I can hear her in your words. One of my favorites! I can certainly sympathize with burying myself in the deepest hole I can find...I think it's safer that way! Great write.

to be mentioned in the same breath as Janis! I was thinking of many of the women-stars, and the recognition that they deserve. Listening to the "Blues" last night, I came across women guitar players and the first ones to become somewhat famous. Thank you for the kind comments. ~ Geez.

My first thought and I know you are a fan! So many inspirational women musicians over the years. You did a great job displaying that in your poem.

~RoseBlack~

you write of someone who knows of heartache and a malaise of the soul. I imagine this person had a loveless and hard childhood. starving for a touch of kindness and a feeling of being loved. my favorite lines are:

Deepest hole that she can find
only crawling out to play
Dreaming, playing, waiting
Getting by, just one more day

I had a love-filled childhood, even though my father and mother fought often and there was some real distress in the house.
My mother was a fountain of love that certainly made one feel secure. Maybe I write from the thought of losing that love.
Thank you for your read and comments, ~ Geez.

Hi, Geezer,
Don't know if it was your intention, but I listened to James Brown's version of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" and I can hear the woman in your song singing the blues from her heart. Your poem gave me the chills, just like the song. Great title, and wonderful blues piece.

I love the "Blues" and I had been listening to a bunch of my favs: Still Got the Blues for You, I'd Rather Go Blind, [Janis]
This is a Man's World, [James Brown] and I listened to famous women blues guitarists, so all of those factors went into this one. Glad I got you to feel the chills! ~ Geez.

I have a sadness that I know will never truly subside. There’s something about the minor pentatonic scale that just feels like down and out or clawing my way along the bottom. My favorite blues singer is Ron “Pigpen” McKernan. Original “front man” for the Grateful Dead. He lived tethered to earth and his whiskey and harp and like a lot of us grabbed by that particular muse he succumbed to his demons at 27, just like his sometimes girlfriend Janis.

Gorgeous poetry Geez,
Tim

someone to blame for having a lazy day. It's your fault for turning me on to this Winterland! LoL
I finally got myself together and got some stuff done, but it was a struggle not to stay with Jerry and Pigpen all day! Thanks, ~ Geez.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. Pigpen was a blues man for sure. I’m wrapping the final mix of my new album here. It’s kept me a bit occupied. 8 songs. I did a song with WordsUnwritten and another with Cat (well, Eddy Styx really).

Not sure if you stumbled on this but it’s my understanding that this is the only time Pigpen played guitar on stage with the Grateful Dead. It’s been a favorite of mine since childhood.
