Double Scoop

My neighbor, an irascible man, a few houses down,
often yells at the ice cream truck when it comes around.
He objects to the noise (or maybe it's the tune).

I take offense to his assault on my thoughts;
my youthful anticipation of cold sugary treats
on hot summer days.

I know one thing for sure, the next time the truck
comes around with its music and joy,
I will flag it down and order a cone,

and perhaps strike up a long conversation
about ice cream and treats
as the music keeps playing,
the louder the better.

You have no idea, how much this tickled my fancy!
I think that maybe your neighbor doesn't like the song.
I love ice cream and sometimes manage to make it out to the street before he goes by.
BUT, that song is the pits! Worse yet, it is interspersed with a female voice shouting "HELLO"
every half minute or so. It sounds fake too, like it's some A.I. kind of thing you might see in a horror flick, trying to lure children to the evil ice cream truck. I did find your description of the irascible man, to match one of my elderly neighbors, who used to shout at the kids riding bikes in front of his house. [We are on a dead-end street.]
The ending is something that I might do, just to annoy the neighbor. ~ Geez.

Who the heck yells at an ice cream truck Geez??? My childhood memories allow me to like whatever song is being played by the "evil ice cream truck." Glad you liked this one, and thanks for stopping by!

as a kid I met up with the ice cream truck rarely. In the summer we do buy Ice cream treats form Dairy Queen. I only get out when I have doctor or dental appointment. It is hard for me as I get around by way of wheelchair and accessible van. I like your poem it is...sweet!

I grew up in rural America, so the ice cream truck is not a part of my childhood. I can appreciate the childish anticipation of a frozen treat on a hot summer day, though. Of course, my perverse memory drags up an episode of "Charmed" where the ice cream truck was a device to trap child demons. I always suspected that the author of that episode really didn't like kids.

In any case, I liked the poem and how you ended it. Well done.

Thanx,
Steve
