Cascades

Be the Romeo to my Juliet
My poison and the reason to need it
Don’t hand over the reins
To unproven hands
Being kept shouldn’t pass
For being found
Being held will never satisfy
The need for being known
Some days are meant for making
Some are meant for remembering
Some for damaging
Others for unmaking
With only the best string of stars
I've laced up a linchpin
For the middle of our dream
I've lit the path with shattered glass
I've stocked the shelves and
laid down lights
I've put a lake in the mountains
And us next to it tonight

I agree, of course. Amen to the lost art of falling in love. We seem to be bad at teaching it here. Both in what we show and and what we say. Of course it took time to learn the value of a real partner. For me anyway. Of knowing and accepting someone fully. It's a good feeling. I suppose the things I ponder and value now as a single man are biased heavily by a list of things I don't currently have. :) Ah so it goes. Thank you so much for reading and relating. I'm humbled and grateful that you like it.

Pretty wise there friend. Yesterday I talked about the lamenting quality to your work. I’m beginning to understand where it comes from. As much as we grieve the years we spent in the dark, the light is far too alluring once it’s finally been turned on. And so we do. Light the path with broken glass, where past mistakes shine like glistening reminders. Remnants of the glass cage we built around our hearts to protect them from, well, fucking everything.

I’m moved,
Tim

What a kind and thoughtful response. First person to correctly surmise the meaning of shattered glass here. It is a tenuous path at times knowing the difference between protection and prison. Thank you for reading,

Fast on the draw. Lol

Your poem seems to speak with both the romance and the reality of a relationship. It feels very honest, but mostly vulnerable and unguarded, with an overwhelming hope and desire to make it work. Strong emotion throughout. Lovely title.
