JANUARY CONTEST WINNER

Please join me in congratulating Sparrow for his winning poem. Here it is:

Another Year (January Competition)
Submitted by Sparrow 42 on Sun, 2020-01-12 19:53
I think I heard the clock strike twelve.
First day of a new year another number to write.
I was going to write in Roman it seems it’s the same
MMXX what the hell 2020 will do as well.

I opened the back door kicked out the year before.
Took my time to let the new year in
I can’t move so fast, and it seemed insane
To welcome another year that’s just the same

Oh! shit they are letting off fireworks out there.
My dog has run into the bedroom screaming
I tripped over the mat, my eyes started streaming.
I am looking at the ceiling again, another thing to bear.

But after an hour of getting off the floor
This old guy is becoming trying, not just a bore
What are you moaning at now the wife screamed?
Nothing my dear you are having a bad dream.

The rest of the day many people heard on the phone
Have a happy new year my dear, they couldn’t have known.
Did you have a lovely party, I said I was as before
My resolution just faded away, as under my breath I swore.

Congratulations on the contest win. I never make resolutions anymore because I feel so bad when I inevitably "fail" them! A "no profanities" one would certainly never work for me. I even let a few vulgarities slip when I'm teaching! Although, I did avoid using swear words in front of my parents until I was about 21 or 22 and I've never sword in front of my only living grandparent, my grandma. Even today I don't use them much in front of my parents. If I use them in front of my parents, they know I mean business. LOL.

It was a fiction piece lol.
I rarely swear it is only people that lack words who swear.
It is a sad time for me, as Jess was an adopted Brother to me, and now I am back at NO Brothers again.
I am getting older by the moment as my friends and family leave us here
I have just one Sister left out of Four and all my Brothers have gone to the Spirit world..
It is lovely to see you here again you are missed when there are no writes from you,
you are one of our most learned poets now so stick around and teach more,
Take care and know you are loved by many, Yours Ian ..x
