the politics of never learning Swahili

Swahili,
I never learned Swahili
in the American marketplace
bankers, Realtors and lawyers,
pundits, corporations and dissidents
oh my,

who would I be now without
Siddhartha egging me on
into my heart of darkness?

thieves rescued me and hunters
wounded me, the prey elusive
in their infrared sight, I loved them
all, but not later

I was a Nomad foraging through
deep roots, hacking off words
that seemed superfluous, I stood
on the edge,
a woman of strawberries.

Watch me fall again.

Taste me.

A woman of strawberries :) gosh I love that image, thank you Anna for that and the rest of this poem. Who would any of us be without the exploration down that river? :) much love Beki xxx

'God turns you from one feeling to another
and teaches by means of opposites,
so that you will have two wings to fly,
not one.' (...Rumi)

This ties together coherently and lacks the plethora of imagery that makes your work so often difficult to access.

No doubt nothing to do with me. I fine poem.

cheers,
Jess
