This Person Will Self-Destruct In...

https://www.neopoet.com/workshop/poems/person-will-self-destruct

How far can you let them take you
down the road of self-destruction?
While you try to build them up
help them in reconstruction

Do you let them take the food
from your family's mouth
steal your rent, your sleep
while they are going south?

This week the Neopoem Group has selected Myself, The Horizon, And The Sun by Kajiko as Neopoem Of The Week. Congratulations to Kajiko on winning this week's contest!

Thank you to the group for their efforts in selecting the weekly poem

Myself, The Horizon, And The Sun

https://www.neopoet.com/workshop/poems/myself-horizon-and-sun

I:
The sun simply slid past me, threw me a wink which actually was never given, I paused and saw only the horizon, I saw its essence, evident display of affective signatures so typical to non-verbal utterances of what we dreamt of being: US, I and Her, She and I, for whichever way it was stated, it was still US.

II:
Now I know, and I'm sure of what Pain is, because there never was a good bye, well at least not verbally, but good byes were "said." But then, surprisingly, I never stood a chance to make and present my plea, no jury, no court, safe the clouds of uncertainties and blankets of woes concurrently beating me to sleep at every point in time.

Neopoem Of The Week Contest Winner!

Off Ramps

It's been so long I can't recall
anything but this highway
which I've shared with one and all
as time and life both slip away.

Just another traveler amongst the crowd.
kinfolk, friends and strangers too.
Rushing, passing, boisterous, loud
all in a hurry to get to.....

The stream (all workshops)

This is the stream - you can see all poems on Neopoet, live, as they are created.

Snow (Neopoem Of The Week Contest May 22 to May 28)

How do I stay sane when seeing is only pain?
Brain tries to filter but to no avail
I hold my head in my hands with eyes closed
I search for clarity but only fail

Body trembles to the penetrating abuse
Ears ring to the vibrating bass
Tears stream down my fatigued face

'Unwanted glares; sunburst haloes
Awkward colours where no rainbow follows
Double vision; obscure shapes
Twisting & turning, I fall; no escape'

HAPPINESS IS

HAPPINESS IS
Coffee in the morning.
Heeding the warning.

HAPPINESS IS
The kids next door.
Wiping out an old Score.

HAPPINESS IS
Children when they Laugh.
Looking at your better Half.

HAPPINESS IS
Ice cold coke Cola.
A date with a girl named Lola.

HAPPINESS IS
A family that drives you Crazy.
A co-worker that isn't Lazy.

HAPPINESS IS
Taking care of your Pet.
Finding your favorite Cassette.

Dirty Little Secrets (by: eddy styx)

Dirty Little Secrets

spying through windows
discovering...
those dirty little secrets
not aired in public.
game faces not engaged
concealing smiles
not in place.
I note
weariness,
here...where
exhaustion comes out
from behind the public
masks.
lies no longer apply
in the dying,
light of day
here...where
you can speak truth
shaming
your Devils!

A Simple Thing

Risky can be the way to love for
me and you and all
then on its behalf let life bestow
what it is that makes us grow…

be rules the way of truth now are
that not one soul gets hurt,
in the deep and darkest valley way
pride and glory find the day…

now if worth of you be the goal of all
pay your homage to this simple thing
and from all connected in the circle bring
our world like morning doves shall sing.

A sabbatical intended now CONTEST POEM OF THE WEEK

Would you like a break
a sabbatical

make no mistake
a few hours leave I take
for more poetry to make

as I visit the wash room
the loo
get rid of my nose of flu
no not Covid
(that wasn't home in 2015)

will it do
I ask of you...

This Person Will Self-Destruct In...

How far can you let them take you
down the road of self-destruction?
While you try to build them up
help them in reconstruction

Do you let them take the food
from your family's mouth
steal your rent, your sleep
while they are going south?

How many times do you try
before you finally get tough
Do you let them destroy you
before enough is just enough?

Yes, we loved our son
but we had to let him go
Down the road to ruination
though we loved him so

No Matter What! (poem of the week contest)

No Matter What!

his youth was
still upon him,
although he knew it not.

when things
got a bit rough
he drew a hit of pot.

it didn't
make him wiser
confusing him instead

sitting
at the drawing table
when he should have gone to bed

not considering
any different, he knew he was right
refusing to reconsider other choices

he locked out
reason pounding in his ears
hearing only their exaggerated voices.

POINT OF VIEW

You see a junkie, I see
Low self-esteem.
You see a problem, I see someone
Swimming against the stream.

You see a cocaine fiend, I see
Pain and fear.
You see an inmate, I see
A bum-steer.

You see an alcoholic, I see
Social-anxiety.
You see a loser, I see
Future sobriety.

You see an addict, I see
Someone's child.
You see a disgrace, I see someone
Whose problems compiled.

Who am I? I am yours

Do I run with the wolves,
or hide with the sheep?
Am I a secret you hold close,
or the one you couldn't keep?
I question who I am to you.
I am seen in a different light.
I sit in the shadows,
but find me you just might.
Cause I know who you are to me;
More than a best friend I can't lose.
You must love me if out of everyone,
I'm the one you choose.

Song of the Nigerian youths

Protest marches
Sudden clashes
Memories of loved ones
All burnt to ashes

News of death all year round
Seems like we're all covered
In an unending dark cloud

Universities on strike
Prices of food on hike
Here we are struggling to survive
Politicians are out there rolling in their hive

Election is at hand
They're all renewing their brand
Not minding the pain and suffering
Brought to us while ruling
