About workshops

Workshops on Neopoet are groups that meet for a certain period of time to focus on a certain aspect of poetry. Each workshop participant is asked to critique all the other poems submitted into a workshop. A workshop leader helps coordinate -- they set the agenda, give participants feedback on whether their submissions and critique are at they level expected of them, and after the workshop is over, give feedback to participants.

To join a workshop, first find one that is of interest to you. Once you have found the right workshop (and verified that it is open -- you can find this out in the description below), you can apply to join the workshop.

Join the Neopoet online poetry workshop and community to improve as a writer, meet fellow poets, and showcase your work. Sign up, submit your poetry, and get started.

Task One: Updating Profile

We want to get to know you! Please feel free to keep personal information private, but please add three (3) things about yourself to your profile if you have not done so yet.

Suggestions:

  • Favorite poems/poets
  • When/how you started writing poetry
  • What inspires you
  • What you hope to learn from Neopoet
  • What knowledge or experiences you can contribute to Neopoet (everyone brings something to the table!)
  • Other languages you know
  • Other art forms you enjoy

Instructions on how to update your profile:

  1. From any page on Neopoet.com, find your username in the navigation bar at the top
  2. Hover your mouse over your name (do not click).
  3. A menu appears
  4. Select the second option, “Edit my profile”
  5. You can add information about where you are from, favorite poets, about me, your gender, and birthday
  6. Gender and birthday are kept private; they are not shown on your public profile.
  7. For this workshop, fill in the About Me section with 3 things about yourself. For example, I have included my favorite novel and short story, what I do for a living, and my hobbies.
  8. Before you leave this page, click the save button at the bottom.
  9. Done! When you have successfully completed this step, a green message will appear at the top of the page that says “The changes have been saved.”
  10. To see the effect, click your name (instead of hovering like in step 2). This will take you to your profile.

Further information about Profile Customization is available in the Neopoet FAQs

  4. To finish your comment, click the save button below the comment box.
  5. Your comment will appear in the thread of comments, which display as oldest first from top to bottom. You can follow along with an entire conversation from start to finish by reading top to bottom.
