NO CHOICE

Why does the world work the way it does?
I really can’t answer that.
But, I’ve thought about it quite a bit.
As I’ve sipped my coffee and sat.

Is there a rule in physics?
A cause for every act.
Or, is it really chaos,
Every event has an impact?

Can a butterfly flap its wings
and cause disaster around the earth?
Are there laws of behavior so closely connected
they dictate every action beginning at birth?

So why does the world work the way it does?
Applying these rules suggests predestination.
If true, we must accept our fate
and live life with absolute resignation.

that everything is a matter of happenstance. It just so happens... and then... and then... That is why you should do good at every opportunity! Not shooting a hummingbird, helping someone in trouble, and all that kind of stuff, all leads to better outcomes and who knows when it will come back to you? I like the thinking here. Your rhyming is good, and the pace is great, but the meter isn't the best. I do get a feeling of rhyme and measure, just not a lot of measure. That's OK, I guess not every poem has to have perfect meter. There's probably a rule about that too! ~ Geezer.

Hello, Mike,
I appreciate this poem. I've read it several times and become more uncertain of my thoughts with each read. It reminds me of this:

"I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze, but, I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happenin' at the same time." -- Forrest Gump

I do know your choice to write this poem has now affected me, which is what poetry is all about.
Thank you!
Lavender

I was thinking it, but you said it better than I did. ~ Geez.

thought by an innocent. I imagine that it's not an original thought, I think that humankind has been pondering that thought forever. I do agree though. I believe that... Well, maybe I'll just write a poem about it? ~ Geez.
