If

If I were a poet
and could write in a fine hand
I'd pen my love a poem
only she would understand

I'd compose it down at the shore
where the waves always come back to me,
like my reflections of her

Hi, Michael,
A tender and lovely poem. I think what I really like the most is the title. The poet, you, and the poem are so humble, and your final line is full of gratitude. Reflective.

Appreciate you stopping by L, thank you!. I almost gave this piece a different title, but glad I didn't.

of your title too! I often think of if, as though it were part of the old adage; "I should have, I could have, I would have." I usually
go one step further and say: "But this is what I did." Nice, short and spare piece that sums it up. ~ Geez.

Thanks Geez! I wasn't sure about the title, but the comments here indicate it was a good choice - thank you!
