The Coffee Shop

Patrons enter the coffee shop,
Grocery bags in hand.
Go ahead! Pick your poison.
And for your order, patiently stand.

Call it coffee, swill, poison, or whatever,
It doesn’t matter the name.
The taste of strong coffee,
It’s all good, just the same.

The pregnant lady needs a jolt.
And candy for her little baby boy.
The caffeine and sugar will, no doubt,
Bring them both great joy.

The businessmen in the corner
They chug their swill.
Based on their whispered tones,
They are about to make a deal.

Other drinkers come to socialize
It’s better than a smokey bar
They meet their friends and be happy,
Maybe leave some change in the tip jar.

They all come for more than coffee.
A gathering place, to be seen.
Regardless of why they arrive.
They enjoy more than ground coffee beans.

Excellent job. Definitely conveys the slightly bustling but comforting ambiance of about 100 million coffee shops.

Greetings, Mike!
I see from your profile you like Shel Silverstein because of the lightness of his work. That is what I feel from this poem as I take my first step through the door. I do wonder if you might mingle in the sense of smell somewhere in here. That is such a huge attraction to a coffee shop that usually greets you as you enter.
