Toxic Love

My dear its now time for you to fly,
No need to call and tell them why,
What are you waiting for?
Pack your bags, and get out the door,
Now is the Time for you to be strong,
This hurt has gone on far too long,.
You never have deserved it,
Your life dictated by a social misfit.

I'm fine! You scream, you don't know him like I do,
We put that all behind us and he wants to move.
We want a new life, just him and me,
A loving couple together, maybe raise a family,
He loves me don’t you get it, he wants me,
I know he hit me that time but he is so sorry
Your opinion of him has always been skewed,
I can cope with this, he's just in a bad mood!

But better days turn into golden years,
No more bruises or blood filled tears
He has grown colder and bitter with age,
As he grows older the less likely he is to change.
Get out girl its time for you to escape,
Forget loving him, there is no time to wait.
In this toxic place you fail to love live and thrive,
Get out now, If you ever hope to survive!

I just made him angry, I’m Clumsy don't you see,
I got in his way, its not him its always me.
I didn't do dinner like he likes it, please understand,
If I had of listened I wouldn't of felt the back of his hand.
I'm such a bad wife, and mother to his kids,
That's why I have black eyes and 4 broken ribs
Please don't say anything, I'm doing all I can,
He bought flowers, he is such a lovely man.

Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
Last few words:
As a victim of domestic violence I have been through many horrible things and I so communicate with alot of people who have been through the same as me and worse. It's always difficult to write about such a subject but as my other poems are about emotional abuse and depression you will find I don't pull any punches when it comes to emotions and taboo subjects.

I agree with Mark's take on this poem. the title is abrupt, angry and could be taken as a warning. but the body of the poem is more like the cowering of a perpetual victim. someone who apologizes to a bully, for things the vic hasn't done. and worse; she makes excuses for him! it is called being an enabler. this poem brought back memories from long, long ago.

always, Cat

Now, this is what I expected, when I read the title! I have seen this many times, but I think it is starting to change. Friends and family are not so afraid to get involved and before it becomes a way of life for the abused. One way to combat domestic abuse
is to call the authorities whenever you see or hear something like this going on. No matter who you are. Neighbors, friends and relatives; stick together and make sure that the world knows what is going on. Even if the victim doesn't press charges, there are many states and municipalities that will pick up charges and make sure that the victim gets help and counseling.
Nice job of making me feel the helplessness of the victim. ~ Geez.
